Iran rejects Trump’s application for direct nuclear negotiations, reports state media

London – Tehran has rejected direct negotiations with the United States in respect to its nuclear program, responding to a letter from President Donald Trump, Iranian President Masoud Fishkian said on Sunday, according to the news agency of the Islamic Republic.

However, he added, the way for indirect negotiations remains open, the state news agency reported.

“In this response, although direct negotiations between the two parties are rejected, it has been affirmed that the path for indirect negotiations is open,” said fishshkian.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Pezeshkian declared that Iran’s response to the letter of the president of the United States was sent through Oman.

He stressed that Iran has never avoided negotiations and blamed the United States for not fulfilling its previous commitments, including the completion of the former nuclear agreement in Trump’s first mandate in 2018.

It was the breach of commitments that caused problems on this path, which must be addressed to restore trust, the letter stressed, according to fishshkian.

“It will be the actions of the Americans who determine if the negotiations continue,” he added.
